Virtually every aspect of commercial, residential and public works construction is regulated at the state level in Alaska.

Prequalification is not required for public works projects; however, a valid contractor registration is required before bidding on a project.


Who Regulates Construction?

Requirements?

Licensees must possess a valid state of Alaska business License, which is issued separately from the contractor registration.

A general contractor that oversees new home construction or performs residential work greater than 25% of value of the structure must obtain a residential endorsement. An applicant for the residential endorsement must complete an Alaska craftsman home program recognized by the state or an equivalent program and pass a trade exam with a score of at least 70%. An examination is also required for ele3xtrical and mechanical administrators. General contractor licenses expire on December 31st of even years and specialty and mechanical licenses expire on December 31st of odd Years.
