Requirements?

Highway Prequalification:
Department of Transportation contracts require a 5% bid bond, as well as a performance bond in at least the amount of the bid. See the rules for prequalification of contractors and bidding on the website for further information.
Applicants must submit experience information and financial statements. Bid limits are set based on the financial statements and include an experience reduction factor. Most applications are processed with in 30 days. New prequalification applications must be received 21 days prior to a letting in order to bid.

Public Works Certification:
All Contractors and Sub-Contractors valued at over $150,000 must be pre-qualified through the Public Works Certification Board. Prequalification requires submission of an application for review.

Plumbers:
All Journeyman and Contract Plumbers seeking licensure are required to take and pass a written exam. The exams are given 6 days a week and require a minimum score of 70% to pass. 4 years of verifiable experience are also required. All members of a firm, co-partnership or an association must be individually licensed. A corporation must have 1 of its officers or employees hold a valid license in order to be licensed.

Journeyman Plumber Exam Candidates:
Odd year applicants must submit an application and issuance fee of $45 with initial application. Even year applicants must submit an application and issuance fee of $60 with initial application.

Plumbing Contractor Exam Candidates:
Odd year applicants must submit an application and issuance fee of $100 with initial application. Even year applicants must submit an application and issuance fee of $150 with initial application.

Licenses expire December 31st of odd years and are renewed biennially. There is a recovery fund that provides for a maximum of $20,000 per judgment and an aggregate lifetime limit of $50,000 per plumber.

Indiana does not have reciprocity agreements with any other state
